NHL Simulation 2017-2018

With my NHL simulator, Hockey Brass (more on that in an upcoming post), I ran the 2017-2018 season to see what might feasibly happen. Here’s what came out of it. The big stories are a Montreal-Toronto playoff matchup, Ovechkin nearly single-handedly winning the Cup, McDavid winning the Rocket Richard, and the emergence of Anthony Duclair, Derek Stepan and Brayden Schenn. Because my software is perfect, and my hockey knowledge is impeccable, this is DEFINITELY how the season will turn out:

Opening Night games (Oct 4):
Toronto beats Winnipeg 2-1 (OT)
Edmonton beats Calgary 4-1
San Jose beats Philadelphia 3-2 (OT)
St. Louis beats Pittsburgh 3-1

Stanley Cup: Edmonton Oilers
Runner-up: Washington Capitals
Presidents Trophy: Washington (119 pts)
Art Ross: Matthews, 75 pts
Rocket Richard: McDavid, 39 goals
Vegas gets their first win on Oct 13th at home (1-0 vs Detroit).

Division Winners: Montreal, Washington, Calgary, Winnipeg

Top 10 scorers: Matthews, Duclair, Backstrom, Kane, Pietrangelo, Nylander, Ovechkin, McDavid, Stepan, Tavares

(By season’s end, Jagr was a healthy scratch.)

  1. So you’re telling me McDavid gets 39 goals but couldn’t crack 36 assists? Think you need to up the penalties in your sim
